Details: Product Description Words of Advice for Thriving is a photography book of cancer survivors and their wisdom from their cancer journey. The purpose of this book is to give hope to those that have just received a cancer diagnosis. Their photos capture the success of survivors from all walks of life with all types of cancer. Gracelyn and Melody, authors and co-founders of Luna Peak Foundation, photographed and interviewed over one hundred cancer survivors to create this book. The visualization of diverse cancer survivors humanizes cancer and helps cancer fighters visualize their own remission as well. This book is made by cancer survivors and is meant for cancer fighters, though anyone touched by cancer will find a community in this book including families, doctors, caregivers, and support teams. Through Luna Peak Foundation, many of these books will be donated to newly diagnosed patients, their families, oncology offices, and hospitals. Review "This wonderful book is one more payback from Melody. We see the faces and hear the voices of others who are on a similar journey. Many cancer patients wonder how they are going to cope with the enormity of their diagnosis, the treatments, the uncertainty, the stress, the fatigue, and more. This book will give a hug with a come-on-let's-go encouragement." - David Chan, MD, Oncologist About the Author Melody and Gracelyn are an aunt and niece team on a mission to help others celebrate life through times of adversity. Melody and Gracelyn were both born and raised in Southern California to a large multi-cultural and loving family. The entire family was given a new outlook on life when Melody was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 6. Melody's positive attitude influenced those around her to always do their best, be kind, and treasure each moment together. Their family adopted the mindset of celebrating all of life's moments and they live by the motto that we are rich in family. Melody's fight for her own life at a young age was the catalyst for her to find adventures in life and inspire others. She graduated from UC Irvine as a Scholar-Athlete with a sociology and art history degree. Melody raises her three sons with her wonderful husband, Tom, who wrote the foreword for this book. Gracelyn grew up with the knowledge that life is precious, giving her a sense of compassion and empathy for the stories and experiences of others. Gracelyn is a graduate of Santa Clara University and Columbia University. She has an M.A. in sociology and finds joy in highlighting the survivors who have impactful stories and wisdom to share. Melody and Gracelyn continue their family's legacy of giving by establishing the non-profit, Luna Peak Foundation, with the intention of elevating survivor stories within the cancer and grief communities.
